DEUS EX MACHINA

(2023)

A piece for a machinist, objects on strings, and live electronics.

Deus ex machina is a cross-genre performance that moves at the intersection of sound installation and object theater.
Inspired by the machinists who bring the gods onto the stage, we create our own theater machine, a scenic installation in which various everyday objects and materials such as kitchen or household items can be moved and animated from a distance by a performer using strings, interacting with the performer.
In the process, the role of the player as a machinist is explored, and the machine as a physical extension of the human body.

“The machinist is part of the machine, not only during his activity as a machinist, but also afterwards” (Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari, Kafka. Für eine kleine Literatur).
